Why Buy Popcorn Machines?

by Mary Reditto

You couldn’t always buy popcorn machines. Indians have been popping popcorn for over a thousand years.   Indians would make popcorn by putting sand in a pan and heating it. Once the sand was heated, they would add the popcorn kernels and voila! Popcorn was born.

You could not buy an actual popcorn machine until Charles Cretors created it. He invented the popcorn machinecart in 1893 in Chicago, Illinois. This is when popcorn started to be sold on the streets and in amusement parks, when there were popcorn machines for sale. The popularity of popcorn quickly grew.

The first old fashioned popcorn machines that were made were steam driven. Popcorn was popped in oil and then there were gas-powered popcorn vendors. Everywhere you went you could smell popcorn on the streets. It started to become a familiar scent very quickly.

In the 1950s, individuals went to the movies less because televisions were becoming popular. Percy Spencer came to invent the microwave during World War II. He actually used popcorn kernels to help him test his microwave oven invention. In the 1940s, people began to make popcorn in the comfort of their own homes.  A lot of people invested in a home theater popcorn machine during this time.

So why should you buy a popcorn machine now? Today, a lot of people buy popcorn machines to make tasty popcorn for social events. Individuals will buy popcorn machines for special events because they do not have the time to make all of that popcorn in the microwave. Owning a popcorn machine would be so much fun for friends and family to spend quality time together. Making popcorn in a popcorn machine is fun to watch and great to smell! Businesses buy commercial popcorn machines for theaters and amusement parks still today. We all enjoy the great scent of popcorn when we walk into the doors of a movie theatre. There are so many different types of popcorn machines and many different brands on the market today. If you’re looking for a nostalgia popcorn machine, get a red one.  The first machines were made in red and this gives the machine an old antique popcorn machine look. Popcorn machines can vary wildly in price and style.  Style generally depends on how much popcorn the machine produces and whether or not it has a cart.  There are many cheap popcorn machines available if one looks around.

If you would like to buy a home popcorn machine, there are a few places you can look. For a larger machine, you can start by checking your local Goodwill or a local thrift store. You will probably get a reasonable price at one of these locations. For a smaller home popcorn machine or mini popcorn machine, you can even look online at Ebay.com or Overstock.com.
